Salah was the top-scoring player in 2021/22 on 265 points, the fifth successive season he has produced 230+ points.

He also boasted the greatest goal threat of any player last term. His 139 shots, 113 efforts in the box, 37 big chances and 55 shots on target were all league-leading totals.

Liverpool’s favourable early schedule means Salah is bound to be among the most-captained players in the opening Gameweeks. 

They face just one of last season’s top six teams in their first seven matches.

Luis Diaz (LIV) £8.0m

The Colombian has also emerged as a popular pick as a result of the Reds’ kind run of opponents.

Diaz is the second most-owned midfielder in Fantasy, found in over 30 per cent of squads.

The departure of Sadio Mane, combined with doubts over the fitness of Diogo Jota (£9.0m), lifts Diaz’s prospects of securing the role on Liverpool’s left flank and hands him the chance to deliver big hauls from the very start of the season.

Kevin De Bruyne (MCI) £12.0m

Manchester City’s playmaker has wasted no time in reminding managers of his potential.

De Bruyne scored both his side’s goals in their first friendly of the summer, a 2-1 win over Club America.

Crucially, the champions are the only side to avoid all of last season’s top six sides in their first six matches.

Owned by a mere 14.9 per cent compared with the 61 per cent of Man City’s new forward Erling Haaland (£11.5m), De Bruyne can be a huge differential for the armband early on.

Son Heung-min (TOT) £12.0m

The Tottenham Hotspur attacker was the most reliable player for bumper hauls in Fantasy last season.

Son produced 11 double-figure hauls on his way to recording his career-high score of 258 points.

The South Korean offers a very appealing captaincy option for Spurs’ kind short-term schedule. 

They entertain Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the first four Gameweeks, as well as visiting promoted Nottingham Forest.

Dejan Kulusevski (TOT) £8.0m

The Swede is among the standout options in the sub-£10.0m bracket thanks to his all-round style of play.

Having made his debut in Gameweek 24 last season, Kulusevski produced five goals and nine assists in 18 appearances for Spurs.

Indeed, his total of 99 points during that time placed fifth among all players in Fantasy.

Bukayo Saka (ARS) £8.0m

Arsenal’s top performer in Fantasy last term, Saka recorded his career-high score of 179 points. 

The winger’s 11 goals and nine assists were also team-leading totals, highlighting his growing influence on the Gunners’ attack.

Despite his impressive campaign, he is found in only 16.7 per cent of squads ahead of 2022/23, compared with the 60 per cent of Arsenal’s new forward Gabriel Jesus (£8.0m).

That suggests Saka can thrive as a differential over his side’s kind early schedule.

According to the (FDR), six of Arsenal’s first eight matches score just two.

New deal will bring increased funding from Premier League to support priority issues

A new agreement has been reached between the Premier League and the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA).

The deal for the 2022/23 season will see the PFA receive an increased funding package from the Premier League to support them on a range of priority issues.

The PFA will also continue to support wider community initiatives delivered across the Premier League, EFL and the National League. 

PFA Chief Executive Maheta Molango said: “This new agreement reflects the commitment that both the PFA and the Premier League have towards our partnership, and our shared desire to continue this moving forward.

“Alongside the PFA’s role as a campaigning voice on behalf of members, we provide a range of services to players both independently and alongside partners such as the Premier League.

“This agreement helps support the delivery of many of those services, and benefits all PFA members.

“We value the collaborative relationship we have with the Premier League and, similarly, have seen in our talks their understanding the importance of the PFA’s role as the players’ union.”

Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters said: “We look forward to continuing our relationship with the PFA and developing a long-term partnership to ensure the right levels of support are provided for current and former players across the professional game.

“We will continue to work together with the PFA on key issues such as player welfare, anti-discrimination, player transition, head injuries and education.”

By contrast, his fellow premium forwards Erling Haaland (£11.5m) and Cristiano Ronaldo (£10.5m) are yet to feature for their respective sides, lifting Kane’s appeal as the initial go-to big-hitter up front.

Three of Spurs’ first four matches score only two in the (FDR), handing the England star the chance to continue his prolific form under Antonio Conte.

Kane amassed 167 points after the Italian arrived in Gameweek 11 last term, the third-best total in Fantasy.

The Brazilian’s pre-season form has made him a massive favourite with FPL managers.

According to the FDR, six of their first eight matches score just two.

Home matches against Brentford and Southampton in the first three Gameweeks lift the Leicester City talisman’s captaincy credentials.

Despite being limited to 20 starts due to injury last term, Vardy still produced seven double-figure returns. 

Indeed, his average of 5.9 points per start was more than any other forward in 2021/22 Fantasy.

Anthony Martial (MUN) £7.0m

The Frenchman has been among Manchester United’s most impressive performers this summer for new manager Erik ten Hag.

He has scored once in each of his side’s three friendlies so far, thriving in the lone striker role in the absence of Ronaldo.

Johnson produced 18 goals and 10 assists last season, both team-leading totals. 

Steve Cooper’s side boast a kind short-term schedule on their return to the Premier League, avoiding all of last term’s top six teams in their first three matches.

Ivan Toney (BRE) £7.0m

The Brentford frontman was among the most prolific players in his position in the second half of last season.

Toney scored eight of his 12 goals for the campaign from Gameweek 22 onwards, a total bettered by only two other forwards. 

He can profit from a favourable run of opponents, with the Bees facing only one of last term’s top six in their first seven fixtures.

Ben Chilwell (CHE) £6.0m

Playing as a left wing-back for Chelsea, he combined three goals and an assist with four clean sheets and five bonus points in his six starts, amassing 55 points. 

Now fully recovered, Chilwell – who is owned by 11 per cent of managers – has the schedule to emerge as a major differential from the very start of the season. 

Chelsea face only two of last season’s top six teams in their first 12 fixtures, hosting Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool in Gameweeks 2 and 8 respectively.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (LIV) £7.5m

The Liverpool right-back was the top-scoring defender in Fantasy last term, finishing third overall on 208 points.

Alexander-Arnold was the most reliable player in his position for huge scores in 2021/22, producing eight double-digit hauls due to his many routes to returns.

The right-back combined two goals and 12 assists with 18 clean sheets and 32 bonus points. 

Despite being the most expensive defender this season, Alexander-Arnold has quickly established himself as a key pick for managers.

He is the most popular defender in the game, found in almost 55 per cent of squads. 

Andrew Robertson (LIV) £7.0m

Liverpool’s best performer in the second half of 2021/22, Robertson bettered Alexander-Arnold by 117 points to 85 from Gameweek 20 onwards.

Robertson averaged 6.4 points per start last term, near-identical to the 6.5 points per start of his fellow Reds full-back.

That suggests he could prove a strong double-up option along with Alexander-Arnold for Liverpool’s favourable run of opening opponents.

Manchester City’s Portuguese claimed second place in the defender standings last term on 201 points.

The underlying numbers further strengthen his appeal for early squads.

His total of 81 shots placed top for defenders and was the highest by a Man City player in 2021/22.

The champions also have a fine early schedule to lift Cancelo’s output. Indeed, they are the only side to avoid all of last season’s top six in their first six matches.

Reece James (CHE) £6.0m

The Chelsea defender is among the best for producing bumper hauls in Fantasy.

James recorded six double-digit returns in only 22 starts last term, claiming 18+ points three times.

Five goals and nine assists show his huge attacking potential playing as a right wing-back.

As witnessed late last season, though, the versatile James may feature as a centre-back on occasion as Thomas Tuchel attempts to protect the 22-year-old from further injuries.

Andreas Pereira (FUL) £4.5m

A summer move from Manchester United to Fulham makes the Brazilian among the cheapest starting attacking players in Fantasy this season.

Pereira was handed an advanced central role behind lone striker Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.5m) on his debut against Benfica last weekend.

He made an immediate impact, supplying an assist for Mitrovic’s strike in a 5-1 loss.

Pereira has quickly emerged as the go-to budget midfielder for managers ahead of the new season.

Guimaraes averaged 5.5 points per start, combining five goals with an assist over his 11 outings.

His all-round influence has already been in evidence over the summer, with the 24-year-old recording a goal and an assist over his two pre-season outings.

Three of Newcastle’s first four matches score two in the FDR, handing Guimaraes the platform to become a huge favourite in the budget bracket.

Kalidou Koulibaly (CHE) £5.5m

Chelsea’s defence should remain among the most reliable in the upcoming campaign.

Thomas Tuchel’s side kept 16 clean sheets last term, a total bettered only by the 21 of Manchester City and Liverpool.

Crucially, Koulibaly’s statistics in Serie A last season compare well with those of his predecessor at Chelsea, Antonio Rudiger.

Rudiger started 34 league matches in 2021/22, at least six more than any other defender for Chelsea, before joining Real Madrid this summer.

The Senegalese also impressed in attack, producing three goals and three assists in his 27 outings.

Nonetheless, at a cost of just £6.0m each, there is no doubt that wing-backs Reece James and Ben Chilwell are the best options in Chelsea’s backline.

Both offer strong potential for huge hauls thanks to their attacking output.

James recorded six double-figure scores in just 22 starts in 2021/22, while Chilwell amassed 55 points over his seven appearances.

Eriksen an option?

Elsewhere, Christian Eriksen (£6.5m) could offer value as a mid-priced midfielder if he can secure a regular role at Manchester United.

The Dane produced one goal and four assists for Brentford, having joined midway through last season.

Eriksen’s 29 key passes after his full debut for the Bees in Gameweek 28 was the third-highest total among all midfielders in Fantasy.

He follows the arrival of Ivan Perisic (£5.5m), who combined eight goals with seven assists as a left-sided wing-back for Inter Milan in Serie A in 2021/22.

Lewis Dunk (BHA) £4.5m

The centre-back offers a cheaper route into the Brighton & Hove Albion defence than Marc Cucurella (£5.0m).

Nine goals, 30 clean sheets and 41 bonus points in the last three Fantasy campaigns underline Dunk’s many routes to returns. 

Brighton also have a kind early schedule, facing only one of last season’s top six in the first eight Gameweeks.

Kieran Trippier (NEW) £5.0m

The right-back made an instant impact after joining Newcastle United in January.

Trippier scored twice and collected one clean sheet across his first four appearances before injury.

Having returned to action towards the end of 2021/22, he averaged 5.6 points per start last season.
